A whole new world

Sheepstor churchyard in infrared

A new way of looking at the world - in infrared
Over the winter I was looking something to stretch me photographically. I have always liked the look of infrared images, especially old buildings and churchyards. With their moody, spooky atmospheres they seem to gel with the look of black and white infrared with glowing foliage and black skies. Infrared film however would be impractical to use as it needs loading and unloading in complete darkness and it has been years since I have even used a film camera. Luckily infrared images can be done just as easily digitally captured and processed. I had an Olympus EP-3 converted to infrared by removing the filter in front of the sensor and replacing it with a 720nm filter that cuts out most of the visible light but lets through infrared light. All the photos on the website are captured with this converted camera and then processed with false colour or as black and white.
I haven't decided whether I like the mono look best or false colour effects - I think it depends on the subject - it's fun to play around with anyway!
